ABOUT THE STUDIO

I choose curriculum to include a variety of music that will help you improve your tone, technique, sight-reading ability, and musicality.  We will also work on music for honor band auditions, solo contest, and our studio recital.  Students will have the opportunity throughout the year to choose music that they enjoy and will be excited about playing.

TUITION:

I teach lessons at school during band class or after school, or during the evenings at my home.  Some band class schedules only allow for 25-minute lessons, but otherwise all lessons will be 30 minutes, once a week.  Please let me know if you are interested in longer lessons.  Tuition is as follows:

  • 25-30 minutes: $16
  • 45 minutes: $24
  • 60 minutes: $32

SCHEDULING:

Weekly lesson attendance is the best way to make improvement on playing your instrument.  Constant cancellations will inhibit progress, so please keep this in mind when scheduling your lesson time.  When you decide you would like to start taking lessons, please plan on a year long commitment.

PRACTICING:

All students are expected to practice every day.  This is the best way to make improvement, as you do not have to spend excessive time reminding your muscles what they are supposed to do in order to play the flute.

Parents can help by making sure students have specified place and/or time for daily practice.  This should be free of siblings or pets (who can be distracting) and supplied with a music stand and good lighting.

You can find more tips on what and how to practice in your Flute Lesson Handbook.

MATERIALS:

REQUIRED SUPPLIES:

  • Flute (in good working order)
  • Flute Lesson Handbook (purchased from Ms. LeBlanc: $7.00)
  • Rubank Elementary Method for Flute (for beginner students—purchased from a music store: $5.50)
  • Cleaning rod and swab
  • Music Stand (for home use—purchased from a music store: $20+/-)
  • Metronome (for home use—purchased from a music store: $15+)

SUGGESTED SUPPLIES:

  • Tuner (for home use---purchased from local music store: $20+)

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST LESSON:

The first lesson is a time for the instructor and the student to get acquainted with each other.  I will ask about your past experience with music and/or lessons, and find out about your goals.  If you have had lessons in the past or have already been playing for many years, please bring any books or solos you have already studied or purchased, along with your filled out Lesson Agreement Form (if you cannot download this, I will have one for you at the lesson).  It would also be helpful to bring a prepared short piece of music to play for me.  The first lesson is usually a lot of talking--letting you know what to expect for coming lessons and giving you an opportunity to ask questions.  The second lesson will be more of a typical lesson.

STUDIO POLICIES:

PAYMENT:

Payment for lessons is made on a monthly basis.  During the last week of each month, you will receive the bill for the next month that will include the scheduled dates of upcoming lessons.  Your payment will be due the first week of the month (example: October’s payment will be due the first week of October.  You will receive the bill during the last week of September).

CANCELLATION:

You must notify me of a lesson cancellation at least 24 hours prior to lesson time.  This gives me a chance to adjust my schedule accordingly.  If 24 hours’ notice is given, then either a makeup lesson will be scheduled at the earliest possible date or you will receive a credit on your next bill equal to the cost of the lesson.  If less than 24 hours’ notice is given, you will be charged for the scheduled lesson and no makeup lesson or credit will be given.  (In order to accommodate for sudden illnesses and emergencies you will be allowed, at my discretion, two cancellations per year with less than 24 hours’ notice, as long as the cancellation is made before the time of the lesson.)

You may notify me of a cancellation by phone or email.  However, if you send me an email, do not consider the lesson cancelled until you receive a reply (I will always reply as soon as possible after receiving a message, but my e-mail server is not always as prompt about delivering messages to me).

SWAPPING:

Instead of canceling a lesson when you have a conflict, you may swap times with another student.  If you have a friend who also takes lessons from me, switching lesson times with one another is a much simpler way of rescheduling your lesson when you have an appointment that keeps you from your normal lesson time.  Please let me know ahead of time when you are going to do this.
